Ex 7.6.2 - Receiving e-mail

KNOWLEDGE

MESSAGING

Read a message
When working with an e-mail application such as Hotmail, Outlook or Outlook Express you can do the following:
  • flag a mail message - this indicates that you have read the message and you may want to refer back to it later
  • mark a message as unread - you can highlight the message indicating that you have not yet read it
  • open and save file attachments from/to your disc - attachments are documents or files attached to the e-mail message which need to be opened and read using another application, e.g. Word

REPLY TO A MESSAGE

When working with an e-mail application such as Hotmail or Outlook Express you can do the following:
  • reply immediately to an incoming e-mail including sending back the contents of the e-mail

  • reply immediately to an incoming e-mail without sending back the contents of the e-mail

It should be noted that you can set up systems to automatically reply to e-mails.  Such systems are useful when you receive a large number of e-mails or when you go on holiday.  Care should however be taken when doing this as you are in fact letting everyone know you are no longer at your desk or at home.

DUPLICATE, MOVE, DELETE

When working with an e-mail application such as Hotmail, Outlook or Outlook Express you can do the following:
  • as per other Windows applications you can Cut, Copy and Paste whole or parts of the text sent to you in e-mails to other documents

  • you can Delete the whole e-mail

  • you can Move to Folder the e-mail to another location on your system

  • delete text in a message before forwarding or saving it

  • delete a file attachment from an outgoing message
