KNOWLEDGE

ADJUST SETTINGS

Display, hide built in toolbars
Like all other Microsoft Application Internet Explorer has a range of toolbars that can be opened or closed depending on the needs of the user.  The Toolbars option can be found on the Tools menu and includes:
  • Favorites
  • History
  • Feeds
  • Explorer Bar
  • Status bar

Display, hide images on a Web page
It is possible to switch off all images from being displayed when web pages are downloaded.  This option may be of use to someone who is visually impaired (who is using voice recognition software to read the page) or someone with a very slow computer for whom downloading the web pages takes too long.

To turn off graphics to display all Web pages faster

  1. On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Under Multimedia, clear one or more of the Show pictures, Play animations, Play videos, or Play sounds check boxes.

Display previously visited URLs using the browser address bar
When you are searching the Internet and in particular typing in your own web addresses in the Address bar Internet Explorer records the last few addresses you typed.  When starting Internet Explorer some days later is is possible to access these recently visited web sites by selecting the address in the Address bar.  This can be done using you mouse and saves you having to remember and type in the address again.  A typical list is as shown below.

Delete browsing history
The address list as shown above can be cleared from the browser application should you wish by selecting Tools, Internet Options, and then choosing the General tab.

Pop-up blocker
To prevent pop-ups from appearing when you are browsing the Internet with Internet Explorer you can go to Tools, Pop-Up Blocker and then select the option Turn On Pop-Up Blocker.  You can then use the Pop-Up Blocker Setting dialogue box to allow pop-ups to appear from certain sites only.
