| ENHANCING ACCESSIBILITY |
| |
|
Some of the options available for enhancing accessibility include:
|
|
|
Voice recognition
software
Voice recognition software does not come as standard with Windows but
can be purchased from a number of companies. The software is used
to translate what is spoken into instructions the compute understands or
more commonly within word processing software the voice recognition
software "types" the text that is spoken. This type of software is
very useful for people who are unable to use a keyboard. |
|
|
Screen reader
Screen reading software is used by blind people to help them both read
what is on the screen and navigate their way around the screen. |
|
|
Screen magnifier
You can switch on the screen magnifier by selecting Start, All
Programs, Accessories, Accessibility and then screen
Magnifier. The magnified page will appear at the top of the
screen whilst any application is running. As you can see from the
screen shot below you can change the magnification factor. |

|
|
On-screen keyboard
You can switch on the on-screen keyboard by selecting Start,
All Programs, Accessories, Accessibility and then
On-Screen Keyboard. The on-screen keyboard will appear on top
of any application that you run whilst it is open and functions in
exactly the same way as a conventional keyboard. The only
difference is that you use the mouse to select the characters/numbers
that you require. |
