Microsoft Windows allows you to delete files
and folders either one at a time, or in groups, from any storage device
accessible. The deletion is best undertaken using either Windows
Explorer or My Computer but it is also sometimes possible to do
whilst using other applications. This can be done using:
the Delete command on the Edit menu
the Cut button on the toolbar
or by selecting the Delete this file command on the Files and
Folder Tasks list as shown in the screen shot below
RESTORE FROM THE RECYCLE BIN
To prevent accidental deletion of
what could be vital data all files and folders deleted are first sent to
the Recycle Bin
, which can be found on the desktop. The advantage of this is that
this is a reversible action, this means that the data is still available
should you later decide that you need it. The Recycle Bin
is a thus only a temporary location for your deleted data and is only the
first stage in completely removing data from you system. If you are
sure you want the data completely deleted, never to be used again, you
must start the Recycle Bin
application and empty it. Only then is the data finally removed from
your machine. Should you however not wish the data be removed
permanently you can use the Recycle Bin
application to Restore the data to its previous location.
